The Storms of Life YOU Know

Storms of life bring a challenge !
How can you get through ?
Do YOU remember from long ago
something that hurt you ?

Maybe in that old neighborhood
or way back then in school ?
Grownups, kids, or even old friends
acted like you were a fool ?

Do you recognize anything today
that strongly bothers you ?
Take time now to analyze,
Choose what’s best to do.

Your job, some relative,
even your spouse, maybe
not treating you like you deserve,
and no improvement you see ?

Give yourself a new look now,
Luke 8 in the Bible to see
What Jesus’ disciples said to Him
during that bad storm on the sea.

Their lives were saved and they saw
wonderful miracles that day;
It underscores for each of us
we need to trust God and obey.

Storms of life that come to us
can make us so much stronger !
Brings us confidence in the LORD
as we live for Him much longer.

Smile at Someone?

Here’s something that doesn’t cost you any money, doesn’t take up any of your time, doesn’t need to be planned ahead in your Daily Plan Book.
The best part is what it does for you.  It helps improve your awareness.  It gives your busy mind a happy break from the stress of your day.  And, at the end of your day it gives you a pleasant memory, (which is good exercise for your brain.)
So, what is this marvelous, magical, mysterious event that doesn’t even use your muscles or your speech either?  It’s a simple smile.
At the grocery store: smile at that old gent who is riding on one of those “electric chairs” as he’s up and down the aisles shopping.  At the bank: smile at the teller who is counting out some $20 bills for your check.  That acknowledges that she’s doing an OK job for you.
At the mall:  smile at the half a dozen people you pass.  Probably each one will glance your way without smiling.  But you are the kind-hearted person who smiles at them, though they don’t deserve any attention from a stranger.
Walking out to the mailbox across the street smile at the young boy on his bike who’s no doubt on his way home from school.  That acknowledges that even at his young age he’s noticed by a grown-up person such as you.  He might even smile back.
What different kinds of smiles come to mind?  When the kids in fifth grade were asked this question their answers ranged from “pleasant” and “friendly” to “uppity,” to “silly,” and “amused.” Take a look in the mirror and see what kind of smile you’d give to a stranger on the bus or in a store.
Kind of fun to think about it; see what bright ideas you come up with.  See if you can smile at somebody today.   + + +

  HAPPY TODAY & TOMORROW !

It's a Happy Day, because God's love is always here!
Each person, friends, and family is a special dear;
We love each other and each of us will pray,
We ask the LORD’s blessing, and so we say:
Life is complicated, but we all know this much:
It’s important for us to try to keep in touch.

Jesus loves us, and He empowers us to do
Important things, like I am reminding you.
Trust and Obey, remember that old song we’d sing?
Great memories for you, no doubt this will bring.
Days of our life seem to be quickly flying by!
Of course, we look ahead to when we will die.

That’s why we read our B - I - B - L - E
where instruction and inspiration we see.
Oh, what a relief it is to know what’s ahead!
So don’t forget what the Bible has said.
Happy Today and Tomorrow, and expecting more to see,
It will be an interesting challenge for you and for me.

Testing, Trials, Tribulation

Situations are becoming more serious!
These are tests to determine the faith of you and me.
Assess, acknowledge, appreciate God’s help,
Doing what He says, obediently.

Wars and rumors of wars are increasing,
More threats and lies and dastardly deeds;
People more wicked than we can imagine,
It’s not more empty promises anyone needs.

Bad weather, terrible storms are increasing!
Believers, let’s get this message clear;
God warns us to repent, so let’s do it now,
The Bible tells about it, the end times are here.

His judgments are surely coming upon the world,
Sinfulness grows worse, people’s hearts growing cold;
The LORD enables believers to stand strong,
Thankfully, He continues to make us bold.

Our example, our words to everyone
must point them to Jesus, Savior of all;
The Judgment Day brings the final word,
so now heed and obey our LORD’s call.

Those Aggravating Politicians !

The latest political ad just came up on TV, or Facebook, or Twitter, etc.  Maybe to irritate you some friend emailed you a link to it.
What to do?  Quick Pray for that politician.   They’re labeled for prayer.
Now, you’re doing something positive, something necessary, something that will also help you.  You pray for that person who obviously needs the LORD.  They’re saying something that’s a bad exaggeration, or a bold lie.  Pray for him or her or them to repent of their sin.  Pray for a change in their attitude and their outlook.  Pray that they don’t get elected and affect thousands of people for the worse.  Pray that they turn to God very soon.
You are helping yourself develop an astute and devoted attitude.  People who talk like that, or wear a T-shirt with filthy language or pictures, or do suggestive actions to show off their boldness to get attention — they need help.  You care about their eternal soul,  as well as their influence on the younger generation, and people of your age, and even the old folks who are becoming careless in their decision-making abilities.
See ‘em, pray for ‘em.  The sooner you do it, then you’re less likely to forget.  The sooner you do it, the more of a burden you relinquish.  Don’t let the devil use such bad stuff to get your attention.  You have more important things to do with the life the LORD has given you.      + + +

Encouragement for YOU

Encouragement is something
I hope I’m giving to you,
And encouragement is something
You can give to others, too.

There’s encouragement in Jesus,
He died so we could be forgiven;
And wonderful news! All who accept Him
Will see Him and will go to Heaven.

Without forgiveness we are lost,
During this one lifetime: we choose —
Will we believe in God before it’s too late?
Salvation will be welcome news.

Now, through life’s aggravations,
Challenges we face everyday;
The LORD empowers us to
Overcome when we obey.

So, think it over by yourself
Carefully, in a quiet way;
See if you find this peace of mind
and celebrate your faith today.

That Word "New"

One word that certainly gets attention is “new.”
       Whether it’s good, like a “new” idea, a “new” recipe in the newspaper we might take a look and consider it. It might be different and improved or unusual.
Or, it’s bad, like a “new” pain in the side, or a “new” problem with the snowblower or a “new” pronouncement from the IRS.  That definitely calls for scrutiny even if you are frowning when you search for evidence.
Here’s a thought for this “New” Year.  See what needs improvement and think about what you can do.  Then set yourself a time and start out with a confident and positive attitude.
Even if no one is standing there to observe you, the practice of improving is something that’s good for you.  Practice makes perfect.
       (I remember that’s what Mama told us kids.)

How Much is Enough?

1. How much  complaining is enough?
2.  How much  worrying is enough?
3.  How much  frowning is enough?
4.  How much   pessimism is enough?
5.  How much  pretending  is enough?
6.  How much  denying your mistakes is enough?
7.  How much  ignoring the situation  is enough?

A thoughtful person considers the circumstances: Who said it?  Who did it?  What happened?  How can this situation be fixed?  What can I do to help?

Here’s a suggestion:  open your eyes and your mind and your heart.
Can you do better?

No matter how small the situation, no matter how huge the problem there is something you can do:  Pray.  Pray for yourself.  Pray for the others involved.
Reviewing it, is there something you need to confess to God?  Is there something that God reveals to you — now — that you need to say and do?

Life is full of opportunity for you to learn and do and discover and grow

My Version of "The Old Rugged Cross"

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
It was a sad day long ago;
And that’s where my Savior died for my sin.
Yes, the Bible proclaims it is so!

So I’ll commit myself to the LORD,
And tell others of God’s great love;
I will bow at His feet some glad day
When I meet Him in Heaven above!

Oh, I’m grateful to know Jesus paid for my sin
With His blood shed at Calvary;
There was nothing that I myself could yet do.
He revealed God’s love amazingly!

To mankind He displayed His marvelous grace,
In His death He would pardon our sin;
You and I must confess to receive now today
Wondrous forgiveness within!

To my dear Jesus Christ I will ever be true,
I will stand up, declaring His ways;
Holy Spirit empowered, I obey Him and grow,
Dedicated to telling His praise.

By Elaine Hardt ©2015

This is my version of George Bennard's hymn from the early 1900s. I think it improves on the message, making it easier to understand, and putting the real focus on Jesus, and not so much emphasis on the old wooden cross on which He died for our sins.  And He arose, and He's coming again!

Finding Out: Growing Older?

“What’s it like to be old, Gramma?”
“Ask me in about 10 years.” Then she added  “Old is always ten years away, I figure.”
“But you look kinda old,” was the honest reply from the little voice.
“Well, your Grandpa is six years older than I am,” she smiled.
So little Luanne went to the front room recliner where Grandpa was reading the newspaper.
“What’s it like to be old, Grandpa? Grandma doesn’t know,” she began.
“Ah, you have come to the right person to ask.  Sit here on the footstool, and I’ll tell you all about it.”

Analyzing That Misbehaving Toaster

The toaster in the kitchen conked out.  Oh, well.  Just buy a new one.
The computer printer put out a wrinkled page torn on the upper left hand side.  Was the problem with the device or the paper or how it was loaded? What to do?
“When you can identify the problem and assess the device that’s misbehaving that’s the first step,”  Craig began. “The challenge then is to sort out and recall any info you already have tucked in your brain.  Next you evaluate the advice you get from others.  Are they experienced, qualified to do the fixing?”
Who hasn’t needed these little reminders from time to time? Keeping all our household and automotive devices happily running is one thing.  The procedure that brings you success is the one to keep on doing.
What about the intangible things in life?
Your success in the overall scheme of things is important to your peace of mind, and your future success builds on your earlier success.  This is why it’s important to settle issues for yourself, and then as a parent or friend of a friend, to be able to assist others.  Children need to learn to deal with problems without tears or angry words.
Even grownups give in to childish behavior at times.  Maybe the bad word is now “Oh, crap,” instead of a swear word.  Whatever.  It does reveal to the bystander something about your maturity.
What’s wrong with the angry driver on the freeway who cuts in and out of traffic?  Does anger in return bring a teachable moment?  It’s time to claim your cool.
What if I --- ? What if he --- ? What if they --- ?  What matters is looking ahead.  Wisdom is achieved, not delivered with your pizza order.

Three Words That Cheer You Up

        So, how’s your day going?  Did it start out well?  Things going the way you’d planned?  Improvements coming the way you’d hoped?
        Yes or no?  Read on, anyway.  (There’s a point to all of this.)
        Here’s three cheery words to try. . . “I’m making progress!”
        Now, give that notion a smile.  Yes, when you are concerned about how you’re handling the challenges and frustrations, not to mention the small success and the little-bitty glimmers of hope, then it is time for you to boldly declare to yourself:  “I’m making progress.”
        Awareness of what’s going on is essential.  Then you size up the hurdles you’ll have to jump.  It might be tricky, difficult, or nearly impossible, but you do want to do better.  You want to succeed at even the little stuff, plus the big life-changing goals you desire.
        So,  what are you waiting for?  Say those three cheery words.  “I’m making progress.”

Mama Can't Fix

     For years, it was “run to mama, and she’ll make it all better.” She gave lightly blown kisses for skinned knees, a refuge from pestering sisters behind her apron. In later years, there were words of wisdom dispensed while she was peeling potatoes or kneading bread dough.
     We little girls saw how mama did it, and from our hearts of love we did the same things when we grew up and had our babies. It just seems right that mama can fix physical and emotional “owwies.” It was up to daddy to fix the wagon, the tricycle, and the washing machine.
     What worked when Danny and Lola were little established us in the “Super Mom” mode. And that set us up for disappointment.

What's Going Wrong?

As advanced as technology has become,
as intellectual as many people have become,
as aware of the world as many of us are. . .
Yet the world is in terrible shape right now.

We must ask, What is happening? Why in the world is all this happening? What in the world can I do about it?

I must have answers for myself, for my own sanity and survival. And I care about my family and friends. To some degree, I care about strangers, people all around the world.

So, here’s the start of a list of “what is happening.”

Stranger on 29th Lane

The man walked dejectedly down the road. Glancing out the front bedroom window I just happened to see him, and I watched to see what would happen next. A moment later he turned into our driveway.

Garbed in a heavy brown jacket he wore no hat, even though the February breeze was cold this afternoon. He was carrying some sort of a large grocery bag. With only a dozen houses on our road I knew every neighbor fairly well, and I was sure I hadn’t seen him before.

Presently, the doorbell rang, and I knew it was the stranger.

With a nice smile he introduced himself, holding up a gallon plastic jug. “I have a great new cleaning product,” the young man began.

Already I knew I didn’t need whatever it was. But I was kind as I interrupted, “We don’t need any, but thank you.”

After I closed the door I went to the bedroom window where I couldn’t be seen through the sheer curtains. There he was, walking down the road to my neighbor’s house. I knew it was too early for Nancy to be home from work. This stranger would find no sales at all on this street, I thought.

Getting back to my desk a sudden heaviness filled my eyes. I wept for the man. Can you believe it?

The sensible thing was to reconsider the possibilities. He could be scoping out the neighborhood, looking for likely places to rob when there’d be no one home. He could be looking for young kids to open the door and he’d invite himself in if they said that mom wasn’t home yet. Maybe this or maybe that, who knows.

He looked strong and healthy; he should have had a real job, real work with predictable pay. But with the local economy so bad right now . . .

There was nothing else for me to do but pray. I asked God to bless him in some wonderful and unexpected way. I asked for his needs to be met. I prayed that he’d go over to the local men’s shelter in town if he needed a place to stay. Then I got bold. “Lord, keep this guy from thinking of crime. Keep him from depression and anger.” Finally, I added, “I’m sorry I am not the one to help him, but I know You have someone today for him.”

Only last week our newspaper had a story about some homeless vet who was camping out behind some bushes at the town park. A big slobbery dog found his hiding place, but snuggled up to him and kept him warm overnight. The reporter concluded by telling how that big church downtown “adopted” the guy and got him into the men’s shelter.

Oh, for a happy ending. At least I know God is faithful to His Word. He does not leave any of us alone; His Holy Spirit will speak in the quietness to that stranger’s heart and hopefully the man will respond to His love. After all, there are no strangers to the Lord.

“ . . . Lord, when did we see You a stranger
and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
Or, when did we see You sick
or in prison and come to You?”
And the King will answer and say to them,
'Assuredly I say to you, inasmuch as you did it
to one of the least of these My brethren,
you did it to Me.'”

From Frustration to Confidence

I realize that worry doesn’t look too good on me,
Frustration mounts and fogs my memory,
Fear has a way of sneaking in;
Lord, forgive me for this sin!

Just because some barely conceal anger in what they say,
Just because some are silent and look the other way,
Just because others stir up deception and strife,
I’ll not let them run my life.

Just because I don’t have all the answers needed for change,
Just because I lack the power to rearrange,
And on my own I stumble a little too much;
I’ll ask the Lord for His touch.

Economics, politics, crime, and troubles of all kinds,
Awareness of evil can overwhelm our minds;
I sort of need to know about some of this stuff,
But without the Lord, it’s too rough.

Here are some things I must continue to remind myself,
A spiritual enemy attacks with stealth;
Trust God and obey, this is the way
He gives us confidence today.

Carson's Best is Yet to Come

Carson was good at being in charge. All of his earlier years were spent in hard, productive labor. A finish carpenter’s job was planned and completed to near perfection —close tolerance meant a good snug fit. One success led to another. Being in business for himself put the focus squarely on performance.

Slowing down wasn’t in Carson’s vocabulary, until recently. And to think that a razor nick was the culprit.

This cruise was his wife’s idea and the timing was right, in between two major bank remodel jobs. Who could have guessed there’d be an outbreak of some virus. Out to sea over 300 people were quarantined, but by then this strange turn of events had gotten way, way out of hand.

When finally back to Florida Carson and Catherine were airlifted on a private jet. Some top doctor in Phoenix sounded optimistic as he dictated an arsenal of prescriptions, bed rest in isolation, more X-rays, and wishful thinking.

Here, alone, was Carson’s first serious thought about living and dying. He concluded that excellent results in the field of medicine was nowhere as reliable as the line of work he had successfully pursued for thirty years. His lifestyle was centered around concrete things, steel and lumber, and numbers that could be verified. Results were identified and earned him a bonus, as well as a comfortable financial return.

But, being infected with some living “things” too small to be visible without huge magnification seemed a world apart from reality. Getting well seemed to be out of his control. He could put on a brave front, and being treated like a know-nothing child he could follow the doctors’ orders. But certainties seemed to have vanished.

Catherine, too, had vanished. Her symptoms were also severe, but someone told him she had been taken to the fifth floor. With her sweet disposition she was probably faring better than he was.

It took too much energy to watch the stupid TV. He slept off and on, not knowing if it was yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Until he was well it really didn’t matter. There was a chain-of-command in place, the business was in good hands.

The notion of wishful thinking came to mind as he viewed the card on the bedside tray. “Want prayer? Want a friendly chat? Ring up Chaplain Charles Cook.”

Prayer? Preaching? Wishful thinking! Carson’s middle name could have been “realistic.”

When a masked Chaplain Cook entered, wearing hospital garb and a picture ID name tag, the patient in 407 motioned him away. Even with a muffled voice you could tell the man was smiling, “I’ll come back at a better time.”

Time. The one word that now most irritated Carson. Weak and tired he was beginning to lose patience, with doctors and nurses, even with himself. Time. What a waste of a perfectly good Caribbean cruise. What a waste of time to spend a week in the Medical Center. What a calamity.

Again the door opened and a masked nurse entered, clad in protective clothes. “You’re awake.”

No reply.

“You must be hungry.”

No reply.

“Did you meet the chaplain? He’s a really nice guy. You two have something in common.” She tried to engage a response.

Carson clamped his lips shut and waved her off with a feeble gesture.

Time. Wishful thinking. But this small stirring of his mind was a good thing. Rising anger would be a good thing, too. Carson had a calamity, and it had to be solved. Carson pulled himself up with sheer determination.

“Ill show them. I’ll show everyone. I will get out of here.”

Then exhausted, Carson slipped down onto the pillows. But this time a firm frown spread across his face.

The softly-beeping electronic array must have told on him. His wife, Catherine peeped around the heavy door and sweetly called out, “You’re better, Carson!”

“Hey, wifey.” He turned to see her entering. Clad in protective hospital garb she did not wear a mask, and did she ever look good.

“They said I could come and visit. Doctor said mine was a mild case. I know it’s an answer to prayer.”

She noticed his frown as he struggled to turn over to face her, but she went right on, “I met the nice chaplain yesterday, and he and I prayed for you right then and there.”

No reply from Carson, so she handed him a sheaf of papers and explained, “Soon as you are up to it, you’ll want to read about that superbug that caught up with 300 of us on the cruise. And here’s an e-mail from your head man at the office. Well, that’s enough excitement for now. If you want a phone brought in I could stop at the nurses’ station and request one. They had orders Do Not Disturb.”

She blew him a kiss and headed for the door.

“Catherine, I am going to get better, prayer or not!”

Finally the room was silent, but instead of welcoming the now-familiar groggy feeling Carson felt irritated. He flipped through the papers.

Sleep which should have rescued him from this medical prison brought instead some really dumb dreams. At one point Carson actually spoke aloud to no one, “Bring me the remote control for this blankety-blank TV set.” But there was no TV program playing, only a nightmare running wild in his weary head.

Carson was grimacing when Dave peered in to spy on him. “Hey. You’re doing better; you’re going to make it.”

“Who are you, and why are you here?”

“Name’s Dave, and I’m going to see that you do some physical therapy.”

So it was that the hospital stay became one irritation after another. Getting well was the only way to get out of this crazy place, Carson decided.

Still acting like he was in charge of something, anything, he did comply with the impositions.

Catherine took full credit for his improvement. The chaplain had introduced her to Angela in the gift shop. Turns out, Angela was a Christian, and over a cup of coffee the two women forged a friendship. Prayer became a conversation with the Lord, and the Bible became a beacon of light. Catherine conquered her calamity.

Tuesday brought a breakthrough idea. A DVD of beautiful scenery shown with a background of calm and melodious hymns was Angela’s latest find.

Tip-toeing into his room Catherine set up the video player; soon soft music embraced her sleeping husband. She settled down on the recliner near the window to watch for the miracle she needed. Time was now a welcome friend. Her prayer was no longer a frantic call to a faraway Creator; today by faith her words were a thanksgiving in advance for that total healing of body and soul.

“Music?” Carson mumbled, opening his eyes.

“And blue skies, ocean, mountains. Just look,” Catherine pointed.

There in glorious color on the big screen was Machu Picchu, the Victoria Waterfalls, the Grand Canyon, the Alps, the Preikestolen cliff of Norway, on and on, wondrous masterpieces to fill the eyes and the soul.

At first the grand vistas were all that was needed; then Catherine joined her small voice with the instruments playing in the background,
“When through the woods
and forest glades I wander,
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees. When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur and see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze. Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
how great Thou art, How great Thou art.”

Finally, when silence claimed the room she spoke, “You and I, dear Carson, will go on this same gorgeous trip outside, every day here in your room. That is until Monday.”

“Monday?” A tinge of wishful thinking showed.

“You’re getting promoted to Rehab in six days!”

“Sounds good to me,” a relieved Carson replied in a wavering voice.

“We have a lot to be thankful for,” nodded Catherine. “I’ve met the Lord, and can hardly wait for you two to be best of friends. The best is yet to come!”

This is Your Time for Blessing

An invitation to faith,
Simplicity of deep truth,
Come for your blessing:
Adults, children, youth.

Approach God . . . . . . . . .  reverently,
Ask of Him . . . . . . . . . . . . . . honestly,
Read His Word . . . . . . . thoughtfully,
Listen to Him . . . . . . . . . . . truthfully,
Confess your sins . . . conscientiously,
Acknowledge your needs . . . . openly,
Receive His blessing. . . . . . . . .  freely,
Now is the time.

Change is coming, and challenges too,
But today, just now, take time for the Lord;
He has a celebration for you.

Change that IS Coming

An uncanny similarity emerges from a thoughtful look at current situations. You might make connections sooner than I did. The evening news triggered the first idea.

Let me set the stage for this drama from the past that fits today’s news. Walk with me patiently. I think you’ll find some fascinating possibilities. What happened so long ago can both inspire — and warn — you and me.

“Change” was the keyword on the banners that went up around town. Smiling faces on posters depicted happiness. “Your life can be better.” Who wouldn’t be drawn to such a positive message. It was the talk of the town.

In an atmosphere such as this the person we’re considering applied for a position. It meant some personal changes, but the future looked bright. To be accepted for the training position was, in itself, an honor.

At the head of this country the man at the top made a dashing figure. He had power and prestige. That he employed ruthless ways had gradually become acknowledged as necessary, given the world circumstances.

Citizens quickly learned their civic lessons. Less complaining was the way to avoid attention. No one wanted to be singled out as unpatriotic, at least not in times like these.

Like a screw being twisted into a set position, there became less and less freedom for those chosen for training and advancement. Seriousness pointed to a future of both honor and danger. Our main character steadily advanced, then was chosen for a very high position, next to the ruler himself.

However, unknown to our main character deadly plans were underway by an enemy who had gained acceptance into the leadership circles. Was it carelessness that allowed our person to feel secure?

Don’t reveal all you know, but make it a priority to learn more. Don’t neglect small clues as they mount up. Don’t show your hand until the time is right. Sensible slogans, even then.

Adding to the intrigue was the fact that this main character was a believer in one God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth. He was to be honored, revered, and His law obeyed. Prayer was vital.

Suddenly, the shocking news burst out. Death would be the fate of all who did not meet the ruler’s pronouncement. Our person of interest had only one other person whose advice could be even considered. Thankfully, that advice was given and accepted.

With a calmness that only God can give, our person stood staunchly, and as the historical account concludes, said and did the right things, to the right people at the right time. It indeed was for such a time as this.

You and I are also outnumbered in our country. Change has been decreed by the top elected official and the leadership of the nation. And change will come quickly, because the experts have decided what is good for us.

Politics has taken over the media, sweeping inside its whirlpool any people who have no mooring in spiritual truth. If you and I are not careful we will be lulled into an excitement that pulls us away from the Lord.

Logically, our freedoms do need to be sacrificed temporarily. Or, so it seems. Christians with a Biblical world view must remain alert to the growing dangers. Some will die for their faith. But, the threats that advance towards us may actually bring a unique opportunity.

There is a time to speak up, proclaim the truth. There is a time to reveal what the Bible says, what prophecy has announced. It’s time for an end, and it is a time for a beginning.

If you’ve discovered the similarities between the account of Esther in the Bible (in ten short chapters) and the times we could possibly face in our country, the reasoning of my conclusion should also be evident.

We are challenged to serious preparation, serious faith and trust in God. Jesus is our Lord and Savior; the Holy Spirit empowers us. As a result of our obedient response to Him, many will be saved. What Satan means for our death warrant can be mightily used as testimony. God will get the glory. He did put us in an earthly “kingdom” to be a unique people, for such a time as this.

Nine Questions Await Your Private Conversation

Nine simple questions can be a mirror for the mind. When no one is looking over your shoulder you can own up to what’s going on; your answers can reflect honesty. A few minutes from now you might get a self-nudge to authentic action, and that may lead to a new level of peace of mind. Look at this list.

1. What’s going well in your life?
2. What are you grateful for?
3. What would help you?
4. What changes would you like?
5. What do you have questions about?
6. What’s bothering you the most this week?
7. What are you looking for, short-term?
8. What are you looking for, long-term?
9. What do you think God wants you to do about it?

Nine simple questions await your private conversation. No need to struggle with impromptu answers. Give each one a quick reply.

Now ask yourself: what question would I add as number 10 to the above list? What question do I need to ask myself, and what’s my answer?

Perhaps you’ll want to revisit the list again next week and see if there are any changes. Taking inventory periodically can be a productive way to save time and energy by giving focus on both the good and the not-so-good events happening around you.

Sometimes there’s nothing as helpful as a few questions and sincere answers. Give yourself a private conversation and see what happens. # # #
