When you were just a kid what good stuff did you do ? 

    What would you like to tell her today ?

Remember that she prayed for you ?

Mother’s Day — Remember Growing Up?

        Later — when you have some spare time today ! — here's an idea, a suggestion for you.
      Jot down some things you remember about your mother, when you were growing up.  

      This has several benefits.  You will sort through old memories to find some important ones that mean a lot to you.

       Maybe there’s something from that you’d want to share with relatives, friends, etc. 

       And — the biggie — it gives you something to pray about as you consider how things are going these days.

Remember Mama? Write it Down . . .

Looking back to when we were kids each of us probably remember some things about Mama.  

And sometimes we reminisce and enjoy two things:  1.  Mama taught us some important things.  2.  We can still remember some of those times.  

So, write down what you remember.  It will be a treasure for the next generation.  There are lessons to be learned and that is good to do. 

This writing is just jotting stuff down.  No need to worry about spelling or punctuation —  that can be fixed at some later time.  

When you have more time jot down about some of your other relatives from those childhood days. Yes, you will enjoy doing this and reading it again later. 

So, how about it?

Mother: A Remembrance of Her Encouragement

        Here comes that annual celebration of Mother’s Day.  What a nice reminder on the calendar to pause from our busy days and remember Mom.  She loved us! 

        What an example she set:  cleanliness: washing the clothes, the dishes, the never-ending housework, sweeping the porch, wearing your Sunday dress and then taking it off & putting on your every-day clothes when you got back home. 

        What words she said to teach us:  sit up straight, don’t slouch at the table.  Tell the truth.    Eat what you took on your plate.  No making faces at that new boy at Sunday School.  

        What encouragement she gave us:  smile as much as you can,  let little old ladies ahead of you,  your report card is better this time,  you ran your best in the race and next time you might win.

Understanding Mothers

Mothers come in various sizes, shapes, colors, and ages.  Maybe we are one, but at least we all have one. Understanding mothers is something we all should make a sincere effort to do. 

Mothers are different;  how?  why?  

A mother’s eyes sees something that needs to be done, so she gets up and does it, or she tells you to do it.

A mother’s heart sees something unfair, and she says —or feels like saying, “Cut that out.  Where are your manners!”

A mother’s memory sees her chubby babies, laughing and cooing, and she feels like scooping up the nearest baby and hugging the tiny stranger, right there in WalMart. 

A mother reads the newspaper and feels like saying, “What would your mother say!  Straighten up, or else!”

What Was YOUR Favorite That Mom Made?

        Those homemade sweet pickles came to mind immediately.  Don was delighted to recall his Ma making and canning her sweet pickles. Once he and his brother ate a whole quart jar of them.  
        What else did she make that was your favorite?  An interesting discussion followed.
        And, my mother.  Let’s see what was my favorite . . . 
        Well, for Grandma that would be her goulash.  For my mother I’d start with that big skillet-full of fried sliced potatoes.  And I really liked those yummy salmon patties.  Hmmm.
        How about you?  What memories do you have of your mother’s cooking, baking?  This could be a fun topic for your own Mother’s Day celebration tomorrow.

Every Day is Mother's Day, So Any Day Will Do!

Mother’s Day is not just for mothers!
First, remember YOUR mother:  card, letter, flowers, hugs.
Then, remember the other mothers who blessed your life:
Aunt, sister, older woman who is a colleague, teacher, neighbor, friend.
A blessing you send is a seed of love
Planted into someone’s life.
Pray for your mother and
These other mothers.

A Gourmet Masterpiece for Discerning Women

[Note: This recipe calls for one mother and one daughter, but you'll soon see how you can substitute grandmothers and aunts if you can work around possible shortages of time and length of distance.]

Take one curious daughter and one caring mother.
Add equal parts of questions and recollections.
Combine these, being careful not to add too many expectations all at once.
